our story

OUR MISSION & VISION

We’re building a community for Raleigh’s young Jews–together.

We believe that Judaism and one's relationship with G-d could be dynamic, beautiful, personal and deeply sincere. That Jewish experiences should be relevant, exciting, soulful, and inviting. And that CYP can be your community, your family and your home.

Here’s how we’re making that happen:

A Space For You

Accessible daily, The Shul Downtown offers inviting spaces where young Jews can connect with each other and recharge from the daily grind.

A Jewish Hub

As the first permanent Jewish presence downtown in decades, our space is a place for local Jews as well as business travelers to turn to for all their Jewish needs.

Events & Programs

We host hundreds of young Jews for warm Shabbat dinners, holiday programs, networking events, torah classes and social events, all year round.

Workspace & Study

Bring your laptop and settle down for a productive day at CYP’s workspace. Additionally, our Jewish learning library provides a range of books plus a comfortable setting for Torah study.

The Downtown Minyan

CYP’s dedicated sanctuary, the only shul in Downtown Raleigh, serves as a peaceful and meditative space for prayer and reflection.

Gather & Celebrate

From engagement and weddings to baby naming ceremonies and beyond, CYP offers a warm and supportive community to celebrate life’s Jewish milestones and say L’chaim!

Meet Rabbi Zalmy & Mushka Dubinsky, Founders & Co-Directors

Rabbi Zalmy and Mushka bring their passion for Judaism, community building, and making meaningful connections to every aspect of CYP.

Rabbi Zalmy, a Los Angeles native, has traveled the world spreading his love for Judaism. He studied in Maryland, Iowa, and Israel, spent time serving as a Rabbi in London, and taught in a Montessori preschool in Brooklyn.

In 2017, he and Mushka visited downtown Raleigh, fell in love with the city, and knew they had found their home.

When he’s not busy being Rabbi, Zalmy enjoys strong coffee, international history, and planning global adventures. Fun fact: he once helped Larry King wrap tefillin on a street corner in Beverly Hills!

Mushka, who’s originally from Mission Viejo, California, grew up in a Chabad community led by her parents. From a young age, she dreamed of continuing that legacy. After completing her studies at schools Chicago and Israel, she worked at the Jewish Children’s Museum and Chabad HQ in Brooklyn, where she met Zalmy.

Mushka’s talents shine in her love for cooking, meeting new people, interior design, and being a proud mom to 4 CYP juniors.

Together, the Dubinskys are dedicated to creating a vibrant, welcoming community for young Jewish professionals in Raleigh.

Our Space

255 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh

The Shul Downtown is located in an 8,100-square-foot repurposed distillery in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. With a welcoming main event space, a full-service commercial kitchen, a mezzanine library and lounge, and a rooftop deck for gatherings under the stars, The Shul Downtown is more than a building—it’s a vibrant center for young Jewish professionals.

The only established Jewish presence in Downtown, The Shul Downtown is a place to gather, celebrate milestones, and find belonging.

This is the heart of Jewish Raleigh.
