From Wedding to War

A conversation with IDF Hero Gal Memia

On October 5, 2023, Gal Memia stood under the chuppah.

On October 7, he packed his bag and went to war.

A reservist IDF paratrooper, Gal was called up to his unit just hours after his wedding. For the next eight weeks, he fought in intense ground operations in Gaza, later serving on Israel’s Northern Front as well.

His honeymoon was replaced with the battlefield—but his spirit never wavered.

Today, Gal is pursuing his MBA at Tel Aviv University and currently studying at The Wharton School as an exchange student. He’s worked in the private sector as a financial analyst and consultant, including time in Israel’s Ministry of Finance. Through it all, Gal has carried with him the story of a people who refuse to break.

Join us for an unforgettable evening as Gal shares his personal journey—from the frontlines of war to the halls of Wharton—and offers a powerful reflection on the pain, resilience, sorrow, and unshakable courage that define Israel and the Jewish people today today.
